Agricola de Cologne MPC 2013

Re-Edited

During 2013, the videos by Agricola de Cologne will be released under the new lable – “Re-Edited”.

“Re-diting”, “re-prodcing” and “re-constructing” becomes necessary, since in many cases either just the finalized or un-finalized production projects exist, but due to the changes in software and hardware, due to computer crashes and the loss of data, in many cases the actual production projects, i.e. all original files of the video production including the captured video source do not exist anymore, and re-editing is not possible.

Another reasons for “re-editing” is the need to convert an existing video production into the new video formats as they are used, for instance in HD video or HTML5 – online publication.

In most cases the original source of all videos, the miniDV tapes carrying the recorded video images still exist. On the other hand, also miniDV is endangered with extinct as such a carrier. While still on the market, miniDV camcorders are not produced anymore, and tapes are already replaced by other media carriers, and new video formats conquered the market, and sooner or later miniDV tapes will completely vanish and also technical support for it.

On the other hand, like all type of hardware also the tapes, respectively the material of the tapes have just a limited lifespan, and after their use the expiration date comes continuously closer.

Re-editing means in fact not only preserving the resource of the videos, but preserving the software used for the video production, so that re-editing is still possible, at all, and this way preserving digital video as a genre.

It is in the existential interest of an artist to do so.

New video release announced

Agricola de Cologne announces the release of a new video, entitled:
Sinamaica – Embarkments

Differently than other videos, the film is not focussing on the experimental aspects, but uses film material shot while the artist was visiting Sinamaica – a region near Maracaibo/Venuzuela close to the Colombian boarder, where aboriginals are living on wooden huts on the waters of the laguna of Sinamaica.

The film shows in three episodes how local people use the wooden boats as their way of communicating, moving and determing one’s life.

What Happened 2011? ist the title of the 1 minuite video released on 1 July 2011.

Currently, the riots in the Arab countries or Greece, for intsance, demand social, economical and political change. Is every sacrifice justified?

Memory Game – a tribut to Auschwitz

On 27 January 2010, the 65th return of the Liberation of Auschwitz (in Germany Holocaust Memorial Day) Agricola de Cologne will release his latest video, entitled: Memory Game, as his personal tribute to the victims of Holocaust, a new world order after World War II and the democratic development in Germany and Europe.

The video is asking also questions, while facing antidemocratic tendencies in Germany, all over Europe and the Western World, in general.

3 new video releases announced for Jan 2009

In January 2009, two smaller video projects will be finished and premiered online.
“Burning Phantom” is an experimental one minute film about the burning phantom, called “love”, the other video is the first artistic result of the travel to Venezuela in October 2008, entitled: “Mi nombre es Wilfried”. The 6 minute film is in its original in Spanish, and it will remain Spanish, at the end of the movie, it will be come clear why.The film shows the confrontation of different cultures, and as the result of it being curious and open for the difference, the unknown, but also its limits. Communication is always broaden one’s mind. “Spanish” could be replaced by any other language.
The next video is entitled: ” Attack” , while sitting on a dentist’s chair you are continuously under attack.

Next video releases

These current video releases are different than all previously released ones,
they are no hybrids, i.e. produced for the presentation on both festivals and gallery installations, but are expressively produced for gallery installations, two videos in a series which will be continued during the coming months by works in which time is manifesting itself in most different ways.
